Financial Policies

Welcome to our practice!  This page provides clear answers to common financial questions to help us avoid any possible misunderstandings concerning the payment for professional services.

Insurance:
Please contact our office at 757-481-3366  to verify that we currently participate with your individual insurance. We participate with most insurance companies in the Hampton Roads area.  As a courtesy to our patients we file insurance claims for you with your insurance carrier.  We DO participate with Blue Cross Blue Shield Anthem.

Your Responsibility:

  • Bring your insurance card and photo ID to every visit
  • Be prepared to pay for any co-pays and deductibles that apply
  • If medical care you consent to is NOT covered by your insurance, then Payment in full is due at the time of service

Insurance coverage is complicated and each policy is different.  If you have any questions about your insurance, we are happy to help you.  However, details about your particular coverage must be directed at your Insurance Company’s Member Services Department.  Their number is usually found on the back of your insurance card.

Deductibles and CoPayments:  You are required by your insurance plan to pay any co-payment, co-insurance, or deductible that is due at the time of service.  We are required by our contract with your insurance plan to collect these co-payments and deductibles.  For your convenience we accept cash, checks, Visa and MasterCard credit cards.

Please Notify Us:  at 757-481-3366 any time you have a question about your billing statement or your name, address or Insurance information changes.

Pre-Authorizations:  We do get Insurance Authorizations for surgical procedures and global obstetrical care; however we encourage our patients to always confirm with their Insurance Company prior to surgical procedure or delivery that their plan covers their charges.  An authorization does not mean that the procedure will always be covered, it is best to check with your carrier.  Their number is usually found on the back of your insurance card.

Referrals:  You are not required in the state of Virginia to have a referral to see your OB-GYN.  Patients are granted direct access.

Lab, Pathology and Anesthesia Fees:  Please be aware that lab fees (for blood work), pathology fees (including pap smears) and Anesthesia fees (if you have surgery) are separate from our office charges and may be billed directly to you by the lab, pathology or anesthesia group.

Practice Policies

Please review our Practice Policies. If you have general questions, you can use our web site contact form, you can also call our office directly.

Appointments

We see patients by appointment only. Routine and annual appointments are generally scheduled a number of weeks in advance. Urgent needs can be accommodated within a day or two, and emergencies are seen immediately. If an urgent or emergency visit is necessary, you may be seen by someone other than your usual health care provider.

At your first appointment we will review your complete medical history and perform a complete examination. For a first pregnancy visit, this will also involve a discussion of many pregnancy-related issues. We encourage the presence of the husband at infertility consultations, and at least one family member at pre-operative consultations. A chaperone is available on request for all exams.

Although we work very hard at running on time, an OB/GYN practice is full of urgent and emergency problems, and even though we leave time in our schedules to accommodate such problems, we will sometimes be unavoidably late.

Please remember that your appointment time is valuable. If you are unable to make your appointment, please let us know with at least 24 hours notice so we may schedule someone else that needs care. You will receive an automated appointment reminder via email and telephone call two days before your visit.

Prescription Refills

Requests for prescription refills are renewed during normal office hours. Please call to inquire about refilling your prescription, do not fax a refill. In some instances, we may require that the patient be seen in our office prior to the medication being refilled. Please allow at least 24 hours for your request to be processed.
